Our Policies

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION POLICY

We are committed to creating an environment that is diverse, inclusive and equitable where all board members, partners, sponsors, vendors, parade participants, volunteers, etc. are treated with respect. We will not tolerate discrimination, biases, harassment, or bullying of any kind regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, familial status, socio-economic status, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, gender or marital status.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARADE PARTICIPANTS

This event would not at all be possible without the collaborative efforts with community organizations. As such, we want to maintain an environment that is free of conflicts where participants, and by extension guests, feel safe and welcomed. For this to be so, we expect the leaders and participants from participating organizations to conduct themselves with professionalism and to display good sportsmanship. We also expect the leaders of these organizations to lead by example and to de-escalate and or take timely disciplinary actions, as required and necessary, when their team conducts themselves in a manner which can be deemed offensive or negative overall to their organization, our event and to our sponsors. Any team, or leader not adhering to, may result in suspension and forfeiture of prizes, where applicable.
The WIIC reserves the right to remove any individual or group from the line of march without advance notice for any reason or cause, including but not limited to, inappropriate gestures, threatening behavior of any kind, and participants under the influence.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION POLICY FOR PARADE PARTICIPANTS

In the event of conflict outside of your specific group, please bring this to the attention of the parade chairperson(s) or in their absence any other West Indian Independence Celebration staff member.
